A youngster from Bellan House has designed the winning logo for this year’s Oswestry Youth Music Festival.

Year 5 pupil from Keira Kendall-Taylor beat off competition from over 70 children across the town with her design that features a flute and musical notes.

And as if that’s not enough the nine-year-old will be entering the growing festival herself with her chosen instrument - the flute!

Oswestry Youth Music Festival committee chairman and local councillor, Paul Milner, said: “Keira’s design was chosen because of its clarity and the way it epitomises the festival.

“The response from entrants has been phenomenal and because of this we have added an extra day to the itinerary. It’s going to be fantastic event.”

Each year the organisers of the festival change the logo and produce 1,000 stickers that are presented to each competitor. The winning design also features on the festival programme.

This year there will be 450 young people taking part in the five-day event.

Cllr Milner, congratulated Sue Turner, event organiser, for continuing to make the festival a huge success, adding: “It is pleasing to note that the number of schools taking part has increased considerably, particularly The Marches School, which has not had as many entries in the past.”

The new trophy donors were introduced at last week’s committee meeting - Eddie Edwards, Christine and Mervyn Hughes, William Oram and Stan’s Superstore.

Everyone can watch the performances for free held at Christchurch, The Methodist Church and Holy Trinity Church. Programmes £1 are available at the Guildhall.
