A CANCER survivor has raised £2, 423 after he organised a Spinathon that took place in Welshpool.

John Evans was joined by dozens of Spinners at the Cowshacc (Scout Hut) which included Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies and TV programme presenter Iolo Williams as teams of cyclists hopped on or off bikes as they endeavoured to keep the pedals turning for four hours.

The money has been handed over to the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund which helped John during his battle against cancer of the oesophagus seven years ago.

John said: “I’d just like to say a massive well done and and thank you to all those who contributed to make the Spinathon a resounding success.

“A huge thank you to my wife, daughter and friends for doing the bulk of the preparation towards a most rewarding and successful day that will go some way towards ensuring that the Lingen Davies Fund can continue to provide the facilities that are so important for the people of our area.”

“Regarding my own brush with cancer, I would urge everyone to seek medical advice as soon as they become aware of any changes to their bodies, never be afraid of wasting a doctor’s time, an early diagnosis is of the utmost importance.

“Cancer unfortunately leaves very few of us unaffected in some way or another.”

“The Lingen Davies Fund is dedicated to providing quality cancer for patients in our area.

“This is done by providing equipment and buildings to improve the facilities that enables patients to be diagnosed at an early stage and be treated in the best possible environment near to their home.”
