WREXHAM-based soft drinks company Calypso is to be sold.

Cott Developments Ltd has announced it will buy Cooke Bros Holdings Limited, which includes Calypso Soft Drinks Limited.

Calypso Soft Drinks is a privately owned soft drink and freezeable business based on Wrexham Industrial Estate.

Steve Corby, director of Cott Beverages Ltd, said: "The acquisition falls within the diversification strategy of Cott Beverages Ltd as it brings new soft drink packaging formats such as single serve combi cartons, single serve cups and cuplets, and two freezeable formats into the Cott portfolio.

"Calypso Soft Drinks has been highly successful in providing its customers with quality and innovation. We look forward to building on the solid foundation."

Calypso Soft Drinks, with revenues of approximately £35 million, has an extensive range of branded children’s soft drinks.

Calypso is also the UK market leader in freezeables with its Jubbly, Mr Freeze and other licensed trademark offerings.

Peter Cooke, chief executive of Calypso Soft Drinks, said: "We firmly believe bringing Calypso Soft Drinks into the Cott family will provide additional opportunities for the benefit of our employees and customers alike."

Calypso was unable to comment on job security.

Completion of the transaction is subject to conditions, including Office of Fair Trading clearance, and is anticipated to be completed in June 2013.
