The FA Women's Premier League Division One Midlands

Wolves Ladies 0, The New Saints Ladies 3

The New Saints Ladies’ boss Peter Wilson is expecting his side to take their disciplined winning performance against Wolves Ladies into the rest of the season.

Three second-half goals – two from Emily Ridge, and one from the spot from Charlotte Canlett – gave the Saints ladies all three points in the The FA Women's Premier League Division One Midlands.

Wilson admitted Wolves showed the level of competition he expected of them, but was delighted with his side’s work rate and wants them to replicate it.

“The players gave everything and more,” he said.

“We needed to be disciplined as we know what Wolves were capable of, but we more than matched them.

“Everyone is pleased with the performance but we've now got to take that forward to the Steel City game in two weeks where we go in search for another win.”

Making just one change – Emma Roden for Charlotte Budd – from the side who defeated Sporting Khalsa Ladies just three days previously, Saints started well.

In an even first half, Canlett had the first chance with a powerful shot from 40 yards out, which was helped on to the crossbar.

The Shropshire side controlled the game, growing in confidence, but were left frustrated as the sides headed into the break scoreless.

However, Saints came flying out of the traps as the ball found its way to Chloe Wilkinson on the left, who fed Canlett. She beat a Wolves player before her long pass found Ridge’s run, and she lobbed the onrushing keeper.

Saints looked full of confidence and just nine minutes later, Emma Roden was brought down inside the Wolves box.

Canlett calmly stepped up, blasting the ball past the goalkeeper to score, leaving the Saints in total control.

That dominance was complete on 64 minutes when a long ball over the Wolves defence was chased down by the Saints front line. Ridge and Roden combined to cut off a back pass, with the former whipping the ball off the keeper’s toes to slot home her second of the game.
