Paralympic archer Mikey Hall has spoken of his disappointment at not securing a medal in Rio, but says the experience has made him hungrier than ever for success.

Hall, who hails from St Martins, was beaten in the quarter finals of the Individual Compound Men’s Open by the Italian, Alberto Luigi Simonelli.

The defeat followed impressive performances in the competition’s earlier rounds, where he beat Martin Imboden of Switzerland, before eliminating  the number two seed, Kevin Polish.

The 41-year-old was the highest placed team GB member in the 2016 event and finished a creditable seventh overall.

He said “To have targeted a medal and to come home without one is disappointing, gutting really, but I will learn from the experience.

“This was only my first games and the competition was really fierce but it has only motivated me to do better in future.

“I was up against some of the best archers in the world and I’m determined to keep getting better and secure a medal next time around.”

Despite missing out on gold, Mikey insists the games were a ‘brilliant experience’ and that he enjoyed competing under the watchful eye of one of the world’s most revered figures.

He said: “From the arena where our competition was being staged you could clearly see the Christ the Redeemer statue looming on the horizon.

“With the clear skies and bright sun behind it, it was an amazing spectacle to see and something I’ll always remember.”

Mikey now intends to take a month’s break from training, before he resumes in earnest at the Lilleshall sports centre ahead of the winter indoor season.
