OSWESTRY youngster Xavie Clarke has his sights set well and truly on a trip to Sri Lanka after being called up for a national Under-15 cricket trial over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Following a successful Bunbury Festival, Clarke (above) has been chosen for the North and Midlands Under-15 side to take on the South West and London team at Loughborough.

“The ‘trial’ takes in three days, though we’re not sure yet whether it involves one three-day game, or a couple of shorter matches,” said Clarke.

“It’s a great opportunity for me, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Once the three days are over, a squad of 14 will be selected for the England Under-15 party to tour Sri Lanka in March.

Meanwhile Xavie’s brother Joe, enjoying a hugely-succesful seaon as a professional with Worcestershire, has lent his name to a series of summer coaching camps for youngsters – the last of which takes place next week.

The fourth and final session of the Joe Clarke Cricket Academy will take place at Oswestry Cricket Club from Monday to Thursday, August 22-25, from 9.30am to 3pm. Early drop-offs and late pick-ups are available, and boys and girls aged from seven to 16 – of all abilities – are welcome.

The course is run by ECB-qualified coaches, and the cost is £20 a day or £70 for four days. To book a place, or to obtain more information, call Robbie Clarke on 07858 306208 or Alun Morris on 07792 868187
