OSWESTRY Firsts continued their good run on Saturday when they came back from leaders Tamworth with a winning draw after a remarkable game of cricket.

Tamworth, chasing Oswestry’s all-out total of 165, seemed to be coasting to victory when they reached 108-3 with plenty of overs in hand.

But the dismissal of star batsman Stuart Burrows, caught behind by Junaid Cassiem off Charlie Morris, saw them shut up shop.

Morris, who finished with 3-22, and Warrick Fynn, who took 2-13 off 15 overs, bowled maiden after maiden as the home batsmen tried to block it out.

They also picked up wickets along the way and Tamworth finished on 136-8.

Earlier Cassiem had top-scored for Oswestry with a fine 50, Robbie Clarke hit 46, skipper Jonathan Miles 26 and Mark Robinson 23.

Kiwi Dean van Deventer was the pick of the Tamworth attack, taking an impressive 6-36.

Oswestry Seconds put up a poor show against Bridgnorth Seconds at Morda Road, going down to a crushing 10-wicket defeat.

Only Steve Humphreys (34) and Ian Davies (19) made any sort of contribution as Oswestry were bowled out for a measly 82.

Bridgnorth openers Andrew Carson (42no) and Oliver Gill (36no) knocked off the runs in 23.3 overs.

Oswestry Thirds, on the other hand, turned in a fine all-round display to earn a four-wicket victory at Alberbury Thirds on Sunday.

Kurt Finnigan led the way with 80 for Alberbury, who reached 206 all out.

Owen Aspinall returned the best figures for Oswestry with 4-42, while Max Payne took 3-54 off 14 overs.

Half-centuries by Martin Chambers (54no) and James Bradbury (51) then helped Oswestry to 207-6, with Payne adding 37 and Adam Woodcock 25.

Ryan Savage took 3-57 for the home side.

Just three runs separated the teams in a real thriller between Oswestry Fourths and Market Drayton Thirds at Morda Road on Sunday.

Drayton sportingly declared on 236-7 after 36.1 of their 40 overs, with skipper Matt Cowap-Tait falling just two short of a well-deserved century.

Stuart Owen was in good form with the ball for Oswestry, taking 4-14, while there were two wickets for debutant Graeme Boyd.

Neil Darley then hit 91 as Oswestry went so close to victory, finishing on 233-8. Jim Phillips added 28 before running himself out and Adrian Griffith hit 21.

Oswestry are on their travels again this Saturday, with a trip to Wombourne (midday).

The Seconds are at home to Walsall Seconds (12.30pm).

The Thirds take on Wellington Fifths at Morda Road on Sunday, and the Fourths visit Wellington Sixths (both 1.30pm).
