A MAGNIFICENT innings by Warrick Fynn steered Oswestry to an eight-wicket victory over old rivals Stourbridge on Saturday – and finally ended the team’s home “jinx”.

Fynn hammered an unbeaten 152 as Oswestry earned their first win at Morda Road since April 2014.

“It’s great to get that monkey off our back,” said skipper Jonathan Miles. “Now we can look to push ourselves up the table – hopefully starting with a good display at league leaders Tamworth on Saturday.”

Oswestry were set a formidable target of 264 by Stourbridge – and responded with an opening stand of 144 between Fynn and Joe Carrasco.

It was ended when Stourbridge youngster Zain Ul Hassan – a team-mate of Xavie Clarke’s in the Midlands side at last week’s Bunbury Festival – took a spectacular catch in front of the pavilion to dismiss Carrasco for 62.

Fynn went on to hit nine fours and seven sixes as he led Oswestry to 264-4 with two-and-a-half overs to spare, aided by Robbie Clarke (26no) and Junaid Cassiem (14).

Earlier two Stourbridge batsmen had made centuries – veteran opener Harshad Patel (105) and skipper Matt Bradley (102 off 96 balls) – in their total of 263-5.
