THE winner of Thursday’s town council by-election was Conservative candidate, Steven Mason. After receiving 102 votes, Mr Mason fought off competition from four other candidates each vying for the Carreg Llwyd ward seat. Green Party candidate Christopher Alan Wood was second with 73 votes, while independent candidates Mike Coppock, Rosemary Radford and Linda Roberts achieved 42, 30 and 12 votes respectively. Voting figures revealed that only 11 per cent of the 2,400 people eligible to vote in the by-election did so. Mr Mason will assume the Carreg Llwyd ward seat vacated by Councillor Bill Benyon following his resignation earlier this year.
