South Lancashire and Cheshire League Division Two
Oswestry 55, Ramsey 5
This was a good day out for the Eagles as they put nine tries over the line.
An eighth-minute try from Gaz Hughes set the pace for the Eagles facing rivals from the Isle of Man who have made life difficult for Oswestry in the past.
Seven points up and a minute later, with the Eagles ensconced in the opposition half, another try went over the line only to be rejected by the referee for a forward pass. This was not the only one in a match that somehow seemed to be peppered with forward passes according to the ref.
From hereon in, Oswestry held the key to success in the game, with dominant scrummaging accompanied by some long drives and winning most of the lineouts.
Notwithstanding the passing problem, it was only 16 minutes till yet another try, landed by Nick Howland, then another four minutes later Andy Merrett went over to make the score 17-0.

A fine drive from a lineout close to the Ramsey try line led to the next try for Oswestry, put over by Thomas Thorpe and a final score, again from a good driven scrum, by Tom Thorpe put Oswestry 31-0 up at half-time.
The second half looked to be much of the same as Nick Howland planted his second try within two minutes of kick-off, from a fine run down the field.
Ramsey, fired up at last, went on the attack and the Eagles faltered just long enough for them to score.
38-5 and Ramsey were spent.
To complete the win, the terrier of the team, Jack Fox, ran the ball over the line with his usual flair, followed soon by a second try from Andy Merrett.
Shortly before the final whistle Tyler Morris made a fine run on the right wing to score the last try of the match, nine tries for the Eagles although a final ball landed over the try line by Nick Howland as the whistle blew.
The Firsts are now sixth in their league with sights well set on a top five ending to the season.
l The next game is on Saturday away against Vagabonds, kick-off 3pm.

Raging Bull North West League Division Five South
Oswestry Thirds 73,
Lindley Thirds 28
Oswestry Thirds welcomed Lindley to Granville Park looking to continue their unbeaten home record and it was not long before they showed the visitors it was going to be one way traffic all afternoon.
Craig Howell burst through the Lindley defence to score under the posts, with brother Andy Howell converting, not to be outdone by young upstart Jason Monroe who also burst through the Lindley defence to score, again converted by Andy Howell.
However this seemed to spur Lindley into action with their fly half causing the Eagles a lot of problems.
One such run resulted in a converted try, again Craig Howell outpaced the Lindley defence to score, again converted by Andy Howell.
Again the Lindley fly half beat the Oswestry defence to score a converted try but the Eagles replied with a good individual try by Dave Keighley, again converted by Andy Howell.
Another two tries by Craig Howell and Jason Monroe both converted by Andy Howell took the score to 42-14 at half-time.
Oswestry made changes at half-time but continued to cause problems for Lindley scoring further tries from Jason Monroe, two more from Craig Howell and a first try for the club in only his second game of rugby for Myles Kynaston, with Craig Howell converting three of the five tries.
Oswestry closed out the game with their home record intact.
l The Thirds take on Whitchurch Thirds away this week, kick-off 3pm, and need to transfer their home form to the away games.

Under 16s
Oswestry 0, Newtown 29
The boys came up against a big strong running Welsh side and took quite a battering.
Oswestry couldn’t get out of their own half in the first period and Newtown’s strong prop and number eight ran through tackles.
Newtown scored four impressive tries in the first half, the half-time oranges strengthened the home side and the second half saw Oswestry on the Newtown line three times.
But they failed to get over with Thomas Henry Jones getting tackled on the line the nearest.
Newtown finished the game with a try in the corner for a well deserved win.
