Students crowned the Magnificent Sevens
ELLESMERE College were crowned the champions of the Manchester 7s National Rugby Union tournament last week.
The Under 16s team beat off stiff competition to take the final 24-12 against Warwick School at the event held at Broughton Park Football Club.
Director of Rugby, Alex Murphy, commented: “The team found their form and played some excellent 7s style rugby. They managed to calmly keep hold of the ball for long periods and score some tremendous tries. This is a great achievement for such a team and I am sure they can only get better.”
The school’s Under 13s also competed at the tournament and despite facing a difficult group, beat Altrincham Grammar School 15-0 in the final.
