MORE than 70 athletes and their families packed into Oswestry Rugby Club for the annual Oswestry Olympians Juniors Presentation Evening.


There were certificates of achievement for all youngsters who had trained for and competed in competitions throughout the year at cross country, Sportshall and track and field athletics.
 

Most notably, there was a special award for Matthew Jones to celebrate his success in gaining a Welsh vest as he competed in the 400m and 4x400m relay for Wales at the School’s International Athletics Board competition in Kent.
 

There were also trophies for Kez Ogden, Cameron Dixon and Leo Read who all represented Shropshire Schools at the English Schools Track and Field Finals held in Gateshead.
 

Abi Bowers also celebrated her achievements at the Welsh Athletics Championships in Cardiff as she won gold in the 75m hurdles over the Jubilee weekend to become Welsh champion and win the    Colin Jackson Hurdles Cup for best performance at the championships.


The Doug Morris Memorial Cross Country Awards were presented to Jacob Tidridge (Under 11), Cameron van Onselen (Under 13), James Morris (Under15) and Joe Morris (Under 17), whilst there were prizes for record-breakers Molly Roberts (Under 11 Girls Cricket Ball Throw), Leo Read (Under 15 Boys 80m hurdles) and Cameron Dixon (Under 20 Men 400m hurdles).
 

For consistent effort and enthusiasm and all-round team spirit, Anna Holbrook won the Under 11s Lee Morris Memorial Shield whilst Callum Jones was awarded the Under 13s Simon Booth Memorial Trophy.
