THERE was no silver lining for The New Saints as Mark Aizlewood’s Old Gold stunned Craig Harrison’s men by pulling off a shock first win in eight attempts as they put a subdued TNS performance to the sword on Saturday.
An upset was on the cards as early as the third minute when Paul Fowler gave Carmarthen the lead with a fiercely driven free-kick before Nicky Palmer doubled the visitors’ advantage midway through the first-half.
And there was to be no way back for a New Saints side which seemed content to give the ball away cheaply as Town took full advantage to inflict a second defeat on the league champions in the space of four games, with Casey Thomas rounding off the win in the second-half as TNS slipped to third in the title race.
However, a win at Bangor on Saturday would see them reel in the Citizens who currently sit two points clear at the top of the Welsh Premier League table.
