Mercian League One
Oswestry Lions 2, Prees FC 1

AFTER a good victory away at Shawbury last week the Oswestry Lions welcomed the in form Prees FC to the Park Hall Stadium.

The open stages of the game went by with both teams creating few chances, but mid-way through the first half it was the Lions who struck  first with a well worked goal started in midfield and finished with a diving header from industrious Ben Williams.

It did not take too long before the Lions doubled their lead when a smart header from Gary Windsor found left winger Gary Jones who smashed the ball into the top right hand corner form 25 yards.

The Lions started the second half looking to increase their lead, but the visitors had other ideas and started to push the hosts back in to their own half with a high tempo passing game. The Lions were struggling to cope with the pressure and had the woodwork to thank on four occasions and half a dozen great saves from keeper Darren Powell.

With five minutes on the clock the visitors were awarded a penalty, which was tucked away just inches from Powell’s grasp. Lions managed to hold on for fantastic three points thanks to some stout defending from centre backs Neil Davies and Kurt Smith.

This weekend Lions travel to Shrewsbury to take on Meole Brace.
