South Lancs and Cheshire League - Division Two
Oswestry 46, Marple 0

A HAT-TRICK from returning Oswestry centre Rob Massam paid dividends for the Eagles as they romped to a 46-point mauling of Marple in their first home game of the season.

Fielding a changed side from an opening day defeat at Moore, Oswestry found themselves on the back foot for the first 15 minutes as Marple looked to get off to a strong start.

However, the tables turned when some sustained Eagles pressure led to Massam rounding the Marple winger to cut inside and side-step the fullback to score under the posts.

Andy Howell’s conversion followed and with the Oswestry forwards beginning to dictate the scrum, Massam again took advantage to score his second of the day with Howell converting and adding another penalty soon after.

A loose ball was picked up by Nick Carlton who fed Massam on half-way for the centre to complete a first half hat-trick.

Another Howell conversion followed, and he added an extra two points when Sam Martin rounded his man before diving over the line to leave Oswestry 31 points up at the interval.

Marple managed to hold the Eagles at bay for the opening 20 minutes of the second-half, but Carlton, Sam Wright and Andy Smith all touched down for the home side in the closing stages to complete the rout before Oswestry travel to Liverpool Collegiate for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday.
