A YOUNG equestrian trio will be making a Royal appearance later this year after they were selected to represent Wales at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Greg James and Nichola Lawrence-Millard from the Berwyn and Dee Pony Club, along with Ryan Dakin from the Sir Watkin Williams Wynn Pony Club, were selected as part of the six-strong team, who will compete at the prestigious event in May.

The trio, who are all 14, were chosen following the Pony Club Mounted Games Trials in Builth Wells, earlier this month.

Trainer Elaine Trevor-Jones, commented: “It’s going to be a special show because it’s the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee as well, but it’s also great experience for them to be selected to represent Wales.

“This is a strong team and I’m really pleased with the team I have to train, but it will be quite different when they get there with the crowd and the Royalty, so it’s going to be a big occasion.”

She added: “Scotland, England and Ireland are all good teams, so it’s going to be a tight competition, but you never know and it usually depends on who holds it together and doesn’t make a mistake.”

It is the second success in just a few weeks for the Berwyn and Dee club, after their team of Sophie Boyce, Hollie Hindley, Helen Newbrook and Hanna Owen made it through to the Pony Club National Quiz Final, which will be held at on April 1.
