ELLESMERE’S annual Winter Festival saw record numbers of people turn out to enjoy the festivities.

The town’s businesses benefited greatly from the shoppers who were picking up Christmas presents and treats for themselves and those relaxing with a bite to eat and a festive drink.

Rotary Club member Rob McBride switched on the Tree of Light and he was accompanied by carol singing from Mere Melodies and Ellesmere Primary School.

The parade started with Father Christmas and his reindeer, followed by his little elves as they travelled towards his grotto in the Market Hall where children could tell him what they wished for this Christmas. And the donkey rides on Scotland Street turned out to be an extremely popular attraction on the night.

A sprinkling of snow topped off this year’s Winter Festival to ensure all visitors were in the Christmas spirit.
