PLAID Cymru would refuse to do deals in a hung parliament with any party threatening to slash the budget for Wales, leader Ieuan Wyn Jones said yesterday.
He insisted that, although he recognised the Welsh budget was due to fall by £3 billion over the course of the next parliament, he would be seeking a £300 million short-term boost as part of a “fair funding” package.
Mr Jones, whose party had three MPs in the last Parliament, said: “We are confident we are going to do extremely well in this election because the message we have been getting across about Plaid Cymru getting a good deal for Wales is resonating on the doorstep.
“We are prepared to talk to the next UK Government, to have a good deal for Wales.”
But he added: “Any Government that comes in that wants to cut the Welsh budget drastically in the first year is not the kind of party we could do a deal with.”
