New supermarkets on the outskirts of Oswestry could be to blame for a drop in usage of town centre car parks.
Figures for the April to June period last year and this year show Central Car Park has seen a decline in income of 1.75 per cent, while Smithfield Street has also seen a decrease of 5.8 per cent.
The Horsemarket Car Park is the only town council- owned site to see an increase, rising by 11.5 per cent.
Clerk to the council David Preston said: “There has been a lot of retail change in the town so it is very important we monitor that.”
Mayor Councillor Vince Hunt said the figures represented a “significant” drop”.
Councillor Paul Milner, who chairs the Markets and Car Parks Committee, said: “I hope people aren’t just going to the outskirts of town because that would affect independent traders in the town.”
