Plumstead: An air ambulance was called after a racial assault on a Plumstead teenager.

The Somalian boy was hit on the head by two white youths in busy Plumstead High Street.

Police are now looking for witnesses to the attack which took place at 3pm on Saturday, September 22.

The family of the 14-year-old, who has not been named, have told Greenwich police they believe the attack near the junction with Orchard Road was racially motivated.

The youngster sustained considerable head injuries in the assault when he was beaten to the ground by the pair, who are believed to be between 15 and 16 years old.

They both escaped in the direction of Plumstead railway station.

The victim was taken to Royal London Hospital, where he is said to be recovering well.

A police spokesman said: “There has been some speculation a knife was used in the attack but we have no evidence of that at present.

“However, we still urgently need members of the public who witnessed the attack to come forward.”
