A WOMAN was taken to hospital with “potentially serious injuries” after a crash involving a car and a motorbike.
The incident happened at the A5 in Chirk, near the Halton roundabout, at its junction with the A483 shortly before 4pm on Sunday.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We sent a paramedic in a rapid response car and two emergency ambulances to this car versus motorcycle collision.
“We took a woman in her 40s with potentially serious injuries to hospital.”
Motorists were advised to avoid the area as the road was blocked as a result of the crash, causing lengthy delays.
PCSO David Millington tweeted: “A5 between Llangollen and Chirk currently blocked due to serious RTC. Emergency services enroute. Please avoid the area and expect delays.”
The crash came days after a joint statement by North Wales Police and Dyfed Powys Police chiefs urging motorcyclists to ride with care due to an increased number of fatal and serious crashes this year.
The statement said: “Unfortunately we are seeing a significant increase this year in the number of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured on our roads, with 16 fatalities across both of the policing areas of North Wales and Dyfed Powys Police and a further 72 motorcyclists seriously injured as a result of collisions.
“Amongst the most common reasons for the collisions are rider error and excessive speed, particularly on bends.
“Many police officers and staff are keen motorcyclists who understand the attraction of the beautiful, but notoriously challenging, routes in North Wales and Dyfed Powys.
“Fellow motorcyclists are welcome, all we ask is that they ride safely and with respect for other road users.”
