A MAN who fell to his death from a road bridge had been diagnosed with an illness just weeks earlier, an inquest heard.

Wynn Stanley Davies, 81, from Pant Olwen, Gresford, Wrexham, died from multiple major injuries after falling from the A483 road bridge near Chirk on Monday, August 4.

Opening an inquest into the death of Mr Davies, coroner for North Wales East and Central John Gittins said that at about 11.15am on the day in question, North Wales Police control room had received a number of calls from people who had seen a male fall from the bridge near the Halton roundabout.

“They had seen a male park at the side of the road, walk around to the front of the car, go over the barrier and off the bridge,” he said.

“Efforts to recover him were difficult but Mr Davies was located by ambulance staff and life was pronounced extinct at 12.43pm.”

Mr Gittins said that a number of weeks before his death, the retired process technician had been diagnosed with an illness.

Details of the condition were not heard at the Ruthin court yesterday.

”He had not made any indication to family or clinicians of any desire to harm himself in any way,” Mr Gittins said.

Mr Davies, who was born on April 3, 1933, was identified by his daughter Susan Dolby.

A post mortem examination was carried out by Dr Pauline Dowling at Wrexham Maelor Hospital who reported that her provisional view was that Mr Davies had died of “multiple major injuries”.

A provisional date for the full hearing, to be held at Wrexham, has been set for January 15, 2015.
