A MAN has died after falling from a bridge at Halton, near Chirk, closing a stretch of the A483 bypass.

The busy dual-carriageway was closed for almost two hours as North Wales Police officers dealt with the fall, which they described as a "serious incident".

They later confirmed the man had died.

The road was shut between the junctions for the A539 at Ruabon and the A5 for Chirk, before it was reopened shortly before 1pm.

A police spokesman said: “North Wales Police received a call at 11.15am today that a man had fallen from a bridge on the A483 near Chirk. The emergency services are at the scene dealing with the ongoing incident.”
