TWO of the schools in the region are affected today by the latest union strike action over pay and pensions.

Lakelands Academy in Ellesmere is partially closed following strike action by some members of staff who are part of the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

Sarah Davies, business manager at Lakelands Academy, said: “We are open to Years 7 and 10. The headteacher did scrutinise the circumstances and did write to the parents to warn of possible closure.

“We found we couldn’t open to the whole school as a result of the strike action and we do apologise for that, it is out of our hands.”

Weston Rhyn Primary School is also partially closed as a result of the strikes, with teachers of some youngsters in nursery, reception, Years 1 and 6 striking.

A spokesman for the school said: “Three classes at the school are out today and three are in school. The classes are mixed so it affects a range of age groups.”
