TWO sisters are donning their walking boots to climb Snowdon in memory of their dad.

Jane and Claire Haddon, from Oswestry, will be tackling the tallest mountain in Wales on Sunday (July 13) to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK on what would have been Colin Haddon’s 74th birthday.

Jane, 44, and 39-year-old Claire chose to support this particular charity as their dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on the morning of January 25 this year and passed away suddenly at noon the same day.

His untimely death was a “complete and utter shock” to the sisters and their mum, Sandra, friends and family.

Jane said: “It left a massive hole in our lives.
“The 13th of July would have been his 74th birthday and he would have celebrated it in style as he had done every year so it is apt that we do something to remember him on this day and raise funds for a charity that is now close to our hearts.”
The challenge will also be taken on by the sister’s friend, Susan Perry, associate editor of NWN Media Ltd, as the date would also have been her father, Mike Ellis’s birthday.
It is hoped the funds and awareness the trio raise to battle pancreatic cancer, which according to Jane has the lowest survival rate of any cancer, will help save another family going through the heartache the Haddon’s have.
She added: “I climbed Snowdon back in 2007 when I worked for the Powys County Times in aid of Wales Air Ambulance, another good cause, but I can’t really remember how long it took to get to the top or the aches and pains endured along the way and after.
“I just hope it’s a nice day and once we get to the top we will be able to see the tremendous views over Snowdonia,” she added.
Jane and Claire thanked everyone who has sponsored them so far and helped them reach their target of £500 before even setting foot on the mountain.
