A SANDWICH making trio will see their creations served up by a national food chain after winning a top competition.
Siân Jones, Kate Pumphrey and Laura Mercer sliced, buttered and filled their way to win the Subway brand’s Design a Sub challenge with their set of four six-inch heartfeltsubs themed sandwiches.
The Moreton Hall students’ concept of ‘Jack of all Flavours’ was the clear winners when they presented a Dragon’s Den style pitch to a panel of Subway experts who said they were “unanimous in their decision” at The Pavilion in Birmingham on Tuesday, December 3.
Their subs will be launched in Subway stores across the central region in February 2014.
“It has been a fabulous experience,” said the Year 13 girls.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed every step of the process and can't wait to see our products in the Subway stores in the New Year.”
Their four subs, all on Italian bread, were The Mega Club featuring chicken and bacon, Diamonds are Forever with tuna and Monterey cheese, Queen of Heart including turkey and honey mustard, and the Ace of Spades combining meatballs and American cheese.
Business Studies teacher, Karen Booth, who supported the girls through the competition, added: “All of these girls study Business Studies and critically were part of the school's unique 'Moreton Enterprises' team last year, an in-house group of business run by the girls, for the girls, which gives them an outstanding understanding of business.
“This has been the starting point for many very successful business-women, and it looks like these girls are set to be part of that list in the future.”
