A NEWLY refurbished chapel has won the blessing of church leaders.
The building, situated at Ellesmere Cemetery in Swan Hill, has undergone a facelift thanks to the campaigning of Ellesmere Joint Parishes Burial Committee and a special rededication service was held to mark its completion.
The event, led by Reverend Philip Edge of St Marys, Father Patrick English of St Michael’s Catholic Church and Reverend Sue Altree of Ellesmere Methodist Church, was held on Sunday, September 1, and also drew support from Town Mayor Alan Clarke and Deputy Mayor John Frost.
The development will now mean burial services can once again be held at the chapel.
Councillor Frost said: “It was a really good turnout and we’d like the local people to start using it now.”
The chapel will be open on Sundays from 2pm until 4.30pm for members of the public to look at the improvement work.
