A CHAMPION downhill mountain biker from West Felton added another title to his name last week when he won the British Downhill Series.
Matt Walker claimed the win after he won the last of five rounds in a nailbiting ride at Bringewood in Ludlow last weekend.
The 14-year-old was just 0.2 seconds faster than his closest rival in the Pro Tec Juvenile section of the event, but it was enough to secure both the round and championship.
He said: “It was really good.
“Because I qualified first it meant I was the last man down the hill, everyone was waiting on me so that was pretty nerve-wracking at the top. I felt the pressure but I knew I could do it and get a better time, it was just about putting it all together.”
In fact the Corbet School pupil did better than he could have hoped, knocking more than a second off his time to finish his run in 2:17:831 minutes.
It comes just weeks after he won the British National Championships and earned himself a national jersey when they were held in Llangynog.
Next up for the teenager will be the final round of the regional championships to be held in Craven Arms over September 14 and 15.
