SHROPSHIRE’s Community Health NHS Trust is assessing the opening hours at Oswestry’s minor injuries unit (MIU).
The study is part of a wider review of all MIUs at Shropshire Hospitals which could see a change to opening hours.
The Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group is considering standardising opening hours across all the county’s MIUs and the Trust, which runs the MIUs, is assessing the feasibility of any potential change.
The CCG is also working with the Trust to look at how advanced nurse practitioners could be used in the units.
Dr Julie Davies, Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group’s director of commissioning, said: “As a CCG we recognise the potential benefits of having standardised opening times and available services across the four minor injury units in Shropshire.
“We hope this could lead to more members of the public using these services, when appropriate, rather than travelling to A&E in Shrewsbury or Telford and Wrekin.
“As part of this we would be considering the use of advanced nurse practitioners.
“Although this is our aspiration, these proposals are still being developed. We are working closely with the community trust to understand how feasible these proposals would be.”
