A DISCOUNT store giant could be on the way to Oswestry.
Poundland is currently advertising a job vacancy for a store manager in the town on its website and the hope is the chain will be filling the gaping hole left by the closure of Peacocks and Bon Marche in Cross Street as the postcode on the vacancy is for Cross Street.
But the company, which revealed it is considering creating new stores in addition to those which have already opened their doors this year, would not confirm reports, despite the evidence to the contrary.
A spokesman said: “The stringent acquisition process ensures the new stores are positioned in the right location and fit Poundland’s customer profile.
“Due to the popularity of Poundland’s product ranges, the organisation is keen not to raise anticipation for a new store before plans are finalised.
“Therefore, Poundland cannot disclose any more information at this stage.
“As soon as all details have been confirmed, Poundland will immediately release this information to the area in question.”
