FLYTIPPING at Oswestry’s former leisure centre site has been brought to the attention of local councillors thanks to social media.

A message sent to Oswestry Town Council and Shropshire Council via Twitter on Wednesday, November 7 highlighted the issue with Mayor of Oswestry, Councillor Martin Bennett also commenting.

It comes after the local authority launched its Twitter feed @OswestryTC last month.
A local taxi driver with the Twitter handle @oswestrytown sent the message last week asking the town council to contact Shropshire Council over the rubbish.

Cllr Bennett explained the site off College Road had been sold in May, but said Shropshire Council had asked the new owners to clean-up the rubbish and failing that would do so themselves and pass on the bill.

He added: “Apparently it has been going on for a long time, but officers will now be keeping and eye on the area.”
