EIRIAS PARK’S new £6.5m stadium will host its first headline fixture this Friday as the Wales Under 20s International squad take on Scotland.

More than 3,000 tickets have been sold for the stadium’s first big match, which will also be televised live on BBC and S4C.

Mally Tidswell, manager of Eirias Park Leisure Center, said he was delighted with the ticket sales for what he said would be “a fantastic night.”

“Last year the Welsh Under 20s played England down south and had 3,000 spectators, so we’re delighted to pass that,” he said. “The people of North Wales should give themselves a big pat on the back.

“Looking at the long-term sustainability of this as a venue, it’s vital that we get off on the right foot, and it’s great that we’ve done that.

“Now it’s all about testing on site. The BBC and S4C will be here from Wednesday, and we’ve a 46m square TV screen which is part of the entertainment, so it’s just about nailing down the final details.

“We’re looking to bring in some other things with the WRU to make it more of an entertaining spectacle. It’s going to be a fantastic night.”

Strong ticket sales have also been recorded for the next two Under 20s fixtures at Eirias Park, with 1,500 tickets sold for the clash with Italy on March 9 and 2,200 sold for the France match on March 16.

Tickets for the match, priced at £10 for a terraced ticket and £15 for a reserved seat, will stay on sale until kick-off at 7.35pm, with a special box office set up at the leisure centre offering further chances to get in to the match.

Stadium officials are also looking for stewards to help marshal the game, as well as other high profile sports fixtures and events over the coming year.

Mr Tidswell said: “We’re still looking for stewards for the game, as well as looking ahead to our other future major events.”
