PLANS to build 44 retirement apartments in Llandudno will be presented to Conwy Council’s planning committee.

The three-storey development on Gloddaeth Avenue, on the site of the vacant Plas y Dre nursing home, which will be demolished, is being proposed by developers McCarthy and Stone.

Planning officers have recommended the approval of the proposal, which they say is in keeping with national guidelines and the local development plan policy.

A report to the planning committee, which will meet today (Wednesday) to decide on the plans, says: “The proposed building in terms of its scale and general appearance will provide a building more in keeping with the character of the locality and the street scene.”

The development would included 44 retirement apartments for residents over 60, or couples with one occupant over 60 and the other occupant over 55.

A supporting statement from McCarthy and Stone says the apartments would “enhance both the character and appearance of the area.”

“In providing much needed accommodation for the elderly population, the proposed development will optimise the use of this previously developed site,” it added.
