THE mother of a missing man from Mold has made a goodwill donation to the emergency crews who have been searching for her son.

Michael Murphy, 32, was last seen leaving the Convatec factory on Deeside Industrial Park on Wednesday, January 4.

His abandoned Volkswagen Polo was later recovered by police from the Flintshire Bridge.

More than £800 was raised at a bake sale at Wrexham’s Glyndwr University, where Mr Murphy’s aunt Peggy works as a senior nursing lecturer.

The proceeds have been split between the North East Wales Search and Rescue Association, the Search and Rescue Dog Association and the RNLI who scoured the River Dee and its embankments for clues to his disappearance.

His mother Ann, 57, said: “These people risked their lives on a treacherous night to search for someone they didn’t even know, and that is really touching.

“Since Michael went missing we feel terrific empathy for all those families who have people that are missing.“Our goal is to raise £10,000 for the search crews and our mission is helping to keep us focused and positive.”

More than 9,200 people have joined a group on Facebook set up to trace his whereabouts.

Family friend Annette Thomas is hoping to surpass 10,000 members by mid-February.

She said: “The group is growing by the hour. The admin team keep setting these targets and they keep getting beaten which is amazing.

“We will keep working hard to ensure that the message keeps getting out there.”

Mr Murphy is 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build with short, fair hair, which is balding.

At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a dark grey flat
cap, a long dark grey duffle coat, blue jeans and white Adidas trainers with three black stripes on the side.
