RUTHIN TOWN 0
RHOS AELWYD 0
A MAGNIFICENT seven marked the Cymru Alliance weekend for Ruthin Town.
Steve Crompton’s side stretched their unbeaten run in league and cup to seven matches with a goalless draw in their tense relegation battle with Rhos Aelwyd.
Crompton was not too unhappy with the final outcome, although obviously he would have much preferred a victory.
“I would say on the day, it’s another point, but obviously if you’re looking at league positions, it’s two points dropped,” he said.
“They played very well, but we were poor on the day.
“There wasn’t a player that didn’t give 100 per cent commitment, but we lacked that little bit of skill and touch.”
While it was mainly the respective defences that were on top, both sides did manage to create a few opportunities to break the deadlock.
Rhos Aelwyd had three sights of goal and home keeper Jamie Hulse was forced into one great save to preserve his clean sheet.
At the other end, former Bala Town frontman Craig Papirnyk had one effort scrambled clear from underneath the Rhos Aelwyd crossbar, while Chris Williams and Craig Wilkinson also went close to breaking the deadlock.
“Nil-nil was a fair result on the day,” admitted Crompton.
“On the positive side, it’s another game where we haven’t been beaten.
“Although draws don’t necessarily give you a good points tally, it keeps the momentum going.
“The most important thing about the game was that it was a ‘nil’ for us.
“If you had said we would go seven matches unbeaten, I would have taken it with open arms.”
It’s pretty much a case of as you were towards the lower reaches of the Cymru Alliance standings.
Fellow relegation battlers Llanrhaeadr and Penycae also claimed a Saturday point, from 2-2 draws versus Gap Connah’s Quay and Caersws respectively.
With their tally of 21 points, Ruthin maintain their six-point lead over the bottom-three, with eight games left to play.
Meanwhile, hat-tricks aplenty meant that it was a goal-den weekend for Ruthin Town Youth FC sides.
There were no fewer than five trebles recorded by Ruthin players, with the club celebrating four victories.
Ruthin Town U-12s secured a 13-0 scoreline during their derby trip to Corwen.
Rhys Jones (4) and Delwyn Jones (3) led the scoring stakes for the visitors, while their tally was completed by Rhidian Edwards (2), Alun Vaughan-Evans, Tom Mann and two own goals.
Ruthin Town Blues U-13s lost out 4-0 on home soil to Borras Park Albion, while Dani Campbell was the hat-trick hero in Ruthin Town Blues U-14s’ 6-0 success at home to Rhosddu.
Sam Jones, Shaun Williams and Tom Roberts were also on the scoresheet.
A goal from Thomas Davies ensured that Ruthin Town U-14s made their point from a 1-1 scoreline at Garden Village, and Patrick Hinchcliffe (2), Connor Lloyd, Matthew Evans, Elis Ifans and Tomos Jones found the target to ease Ruthin Town U-15s through to a 6-1 verdict versus Penycae.
Meanwhile, it was the Llyr Morris and Ryan Jones show as Ruthin Town U-16s saw of the challenge of Acrefair 7-0.
Morris slotted in four of the goals and Jones added a hat-trick to the total.
