BREAKING: Two killed as plane crashes near Welshpool

POLICE have confirmed two people have died in an incident involving a small aircraft in Leighton near Welshpool, which witnesses have described as a seven-seater light aircraft.

“This incident involved a light aircraft which has come down on Long Mountain,” said Chief Inspector Martin Tavener. “We are now working to locate next of kin and a family liaison officer has been appointed.

“The Air Accident Investigation Branch are en route to the scene and will take on the investigation from here."

Police, fire and the air ambulance all attended the scene after a call was received by them at 12.44pm and they were on the scene by 12.53pm.
