South Lancs/Cheshire League - Division Two
Oswestry 38, Ramsey (IOM) 17
ROB Massam became the latest Oswestry player to bag a hat-trick of tries as the Eagles came from behind to send islanders Ramsey packing.
The Isle of Man side succumbed to a fourth straight win for Oswestry despite taking a two-point advantage at the interval following an enthralling first-half jostle for the lead.
But Oswestry found another gear after the break with Massam snatching the headlines as the Eagles ran out convincing winners.
Massam scored his first two minutes in after pressure from the forwards left space for him to break through the line.
Howell converted but Oswestry were pegged back when a converted try from Ramsey belied their lack of firepower in the scrum.
Their fly-half overcame this with more territorial kicking and they retained the ball in the Oswestry 22 long enough for their centre to cross the line.
The conversion made it 14-7, but Ollie Wilford barged through to cut the gap to two points at half-time.
Recycled ball from some Graham Fox line-out led to scrumhalf Jim Dilks grabbing his second try in successive games, and Howell's conversion meant that a Ramsey penalty kept them two points adrift.
Massam outpaced the visiting defence from 40 metres to dive over in the corner and Oswestry began to dominate before he outdid his previous effort with a 50 metre sprint to touch down under the posts.
Good play from Sam Martin gave Andrew Smith the chance to round off the win with Howell's conversion the icing on the cake.
