Why unfurnished is the new furnished

Picture the scene. It's moving day. All the hassle with estate agents and landlords is over. Everything has been packed and transported intact (hopefully). You're ready to begin life in your new home when a voice in the back of your head starts ringing: 'I don't like that wallpaper, the colours of those walls need changing, the kitchen units are in the wrong place and I wanted a leather sofa. On and on it goes until you realise this isn't your home at all and it will need an awful lot of work and alterations before it is even close to being ready.

This scenario can easily and simply be avoided by looking for an unfurnished home. This provides a blank canvas upon which you are free to release the interior designer within, as you put Laurence Llewelyn Bowen to shame by adapting the house to suit your exact specifications and desires. Unfurnished surroundings give you the true freedom with which to express yourself. After all, it is you who will be living there; why should anybody else dictate how it should look?

Furthermore, moving into an unfurnished base allows you to choose exactly what furniture is going to go in the house and exactly where you want it. If you have regular visitors, spreading one or more sofabeds around the place is certainly advisable. Imagine not being able to put up friends and relatives in comfort when they come calling, all because someone else decided against a futon.

As with most things in life, it is also important to consider the finances involved. Not only are unfurnished apartments more widely available than their fully-furnished counterparts, they are also often a good deal cheaper. This means you can budget for a significantly superior building than you might otherwise have been restricted to.

In addition, buying all your own furniture means you’ll be able to handpick pieces and take them with you if and when you decide to move on. This control over your choices negates any savings made by moving into a furnished place.

Moving into a new home is a stressful enough experience without surrendering control of some of the most important aspects of your new home to someone else. Find an unfurnished shell now and set about making it into your own perfect haven.
