A RHOS ON SEA musical prodigy will be hitting the high notes with the National Youth Orchestra at the forthcoming BBC Proms.
Martin Lüdenbach, 17, will be playing the double bass with the orchestra at the flagship classical music event of the year on August 6.
The Eirias High School student had to fight off competition from more than 600 applicants for his spot with the orchestra, and is one of twelve double bass players that will be performing.
“It was great, amazing! It’s an absolute dream to play witht hem, and it doesn’t get any bigger than the Proms,” he said.
“I applied last summer and had an initial interview with about 600 other applicants, then a second one with people who re-applied from last year.”
“Of all the double bass players, I’m one of only two who got in who isn’t at a musical or private school. It’s great to be a part of such a huge orchestra.
Before the big performance, Martin, who began playing the piano when he was seven years old, will be joining up with the other members of the orchestra for a twelve day classical music course, which also includes a performance at the Birmingham Symphony Hall.
The music maestro, who can also play bass guitar, took up the double bass six and a half years ago, and will be applying to musical colleged next year to continue his musical career.
“I’ll be reapplying for the National Youth Orchestra next year and will hopefully get through and move up the section, and I’ll also be applying to music schools, one in Birmingham and two in London.
