ROCK, soul, electro, folk - Tennessee titans The Kings Of Leon proudly present the genre-defying band The Features.
With their new album Some Kind Of Salvation out later this month, the band are set to be the next big name on the musical landscape.
Dancing between brass interludes one minute and organ riffs the next, the eclectic release fails to fall on either side of the musical fence; preferring instead to cartwheel freely along it.
And that is the attraction of the accomplished release.
With no interest in adhering to a specific label, The Features appear to revel in their musical rebellion - if it sounds good, it is good.
Vocalist Matthew Pelham throws out tender control and screamish emotion in equal measure and with glorious results, while strong production from the Grammy Award-winning Jacquire King twists the tone and effects as required for each track.
The sing-a-long-able The Temporary Blues marks a crowd pleasing highlight while a more solemn The Gates Of Hell shows just some of the range The Features can boast (as does the keyboard led Concrete - a rapid departure which peaks interest during the third quarter).
With only the occasional moments of filler, Some Kind Of Salvation is a genuinely engaging release which fails to fall into safe territory.
Expect The Features to be the next big festival presence.
