Bulgarian culture brought Oswestry’s Cae Glas Park to life last weekend.

The Bulgarian Folklore Club in Oswestry, in partnership with the Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club and Eclectic, held a ‘Together in the Park’ event featuring dancers, food and music, plus other Bulgarian groups from across the UK and even some from Bulgaria itself.

It was the hottest day of the year (so far at that point) and not the best day for dancing in heavy costume but shade was sought at every opportunity and water drunk by the gallon.

Cath Baldry, from the Cambrian Rotary said, “This was the second time the event has been run but the first year our club has been involved. We are very proud to be working in partnership with the Oswestry Folklore Group and the event is looking like it will be a yearly calendar event for Oswestry and will probably get bigger each year.”

The Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club twinned with another Rotary Club on the Black Sea in Bulgaria last year.

Rotarian Nadia Dimitrova, herself a Bulgarian, added: “This was a great opportunity for local people to get together with the Bulgarian community on our doorstep and beyond to understand a little more about my culture and for greater understanding of the two peoples.”
